8 Tips To Prepare For Hurricane Season

Am I Hurricane Ready?

How do I prepare for hurricane season?

Have Your Roof Inspected

Have a professional review your entire roof for any possible damages or maintenance that will need taken care of prior to storms.

Repair All Existing Leaks

If you have a current leak, chances are it will worsen during storms.  Have a professional out to repair as soon as possible to prevent further damage.

Check For Loose or Cracked Tiles

Look for loose or cracked tiles.  Both increase chances of water intrusion.  It is best to have all tiles repaired or replaced prior to storms to prevent interior damage to homes.

Check For Loose or Missing Shingles

Look for loose or missing shingles. Both increase chances of water intrusion. It is best to have all shingles replaced or repaired prior to storms to prevent interior damage to homes.

Trim Your Trees

Strong winds may break branches or trees in your yard. It is always best to remove as much of your tree branches as possible prior to any storms to avoid possible damage. Having trees cut back from power lines is also suggested to avoid fires or power outages.

Assess Soffits & Fascia

Walk the perimeter of your entire home while looking at all soffit & fascia bioards.  If you see signs of rotten wood, this could cause an issue during a hurricane.  Best to have a professional repair the areas prior to storms.

Clean Debris From Gutters

Cleaning leaves/debris from gutters will allow rainwater to flow and should prevent backups that may cause water intrusion to the home. Removing debris from your roof valleys is also suggested.

Look For Water Spots

Take a look at your ceiling. If you notice any discoloration, bubbling, bulging areas or water droplets this could be the sign of a roof leak. Have a professional come make any repairs needed prior to storms to prevent further damage.
